Antidote for Isolation
Hearing what the president said last night reminded me of this piece I had written some time ago that’s titled Antidote for Isolation. It says,
Isolation makes one an easy target for discouragement.
Discouragement that is encouraged tends to deepen isolation,
Unchecked isolation encourages self-pity which leads to hopelessness and helplessness.
Hopelessness and helplessness can lead to unhappiness and anxiety.
All these can initiate a spiral that can have disastrous results.
That’s where many lonely persons have now found themselves.
They need help to break the cycle and lift them from the dumps,
So isolation won’t have the better of them or bring changes to their lives.
Remember, there is a place of quiet rest that brings fellowship sweet.
So, seek it and begin to really enjoy life. And, take another along with you!
So, while social distancing is a reality in our experiences and will yet be for some time to come, don’t let it isolate you; don’t let it discourage or lead you to hopelessness. Follow the advice of the Psalmist in Psalm 94:19,
“When anxiety overtakes me and worries are many, Your comfort lightens my soul,” (the Voice).
